Basketball Game Preview: Edgerton Bulldogs vs. Montpelier Locomotives

The Edgerton Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Montpelier Locomotives at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edgerton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Edgerton picked up another tournament win on Friday. They strolled past Stryker with points to spare, taking the game 58-43.

Meanwhile, Montpelier beat Cardinal Stritch 71-62 on Friday. Given the Locomotives' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd in Ohio, while the Cardinals are ranked 727th in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Montpelier's win came from a few key players Edgerton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was C.J. Fidler, who went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc to rack up 31 points. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Smeltzer, who dropped a triple-double with 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.

Edgerton pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points over those games. As for Montpelier, their record is now 17-5.

Edgerton couldn't quite finish off Montpelier when the teams last played back in January and fell 45-42. Can Edgerton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
