Basketball Recap: Hopewell Comes Up Short

Hopewell and James Monroe squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Hopewell had to settle for second. They came up short against the James Monroe Yellow Jackets, falling 94-70. The Blue Devils have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Hopewell lost, don't look at Erin Edmonds HV17. Despite the final result, she shot 44% from the field en route to 40 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The matchup was Edmonds HV17's 13th in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was April Winfield, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Edmonds HV17 wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Hopewell was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their second loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Hopewell's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for James Monroe, the win keeps them at an undefeated 24-0.

Hopewell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for James Monroe, they will head out on the road to challenge Grafton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Grafton has won ten straight at home, while James Monroe won ten straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
