Baseball Recap: Bayside Makes It Four in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Bayside and Melbourne Central Catholic, and Bayside kept the tradition alive. The Bayside Bears walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers on Thursday. While the Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

JT Whitlow looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Johnny Good, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Elvin Pascaul, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Bayside's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayside will host Eau Gallie at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bayside's pitching crew has only allowed 1.2 runs per game this season, so Eau Gallie's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Viera at 4:30 p.m.
