Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ballard

Ballard took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Jackson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Beavers narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Timberwolves 3-1. This was payback for the Beavers, who suffered an 11-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Colette Howren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Annika Jahn was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

The win (which was Ballard's third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. As for Jackson, their defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

Coming up, Ballard will square off against Bishop Blanchet at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Beavers are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Bears a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. As for Jackson, they will face off against Moses Lake at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Timberwolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
