Football Game Preview: Keller Central Chargers vs. Southlake Carroll Dragons

Keller Central hasn't had much luck against Southlake Carroll recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Keller Central will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Two weeks ago, Keller Central didn't have too much trouble with Bell as they won 38-23.

Meanwhile, Southlake Carroll put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over Bell. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Blue Raiders are ranked 158th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Keller Central better keep an eye on Angelo Renda. He was instrumental in Southlake Carroll's win, rushing for 82 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, while also throwing for 380 yards while completing 79.3% of his passes. That's the most rushing yards Renda has posted since back in December of 2024. Blake Gunter was another key player, gaining 178 total yards and a touchdown.

Southlake Carroll was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 302 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Southlake Carroll's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Robbie Ladd was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Keller Central's record now sits at 5-3. As for Southlake Carroll, their record is now 9-0.

Keller Central was dealt a bruising 48-15 loss at the hands of Southlake Carroll in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Renda, who threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punched in a pair of TDs on the ground.
