Basketball Recap: Fort Chiswell Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Fort Chiswell unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were dealt an 84-57 defeat at the hands of the Auburn Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pioneers have suffered since February 6, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Fort Chiswell saw an underclassman step up: freshman Owen Jackson posted 19 points. Jackson's evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenton Sutphin, who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Fort Chiswell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Fort Chiswell's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 12-5. As for Auburn, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Fort Chiswell has already played their next contest, an 86-73 victory against Galax on the 29th. As for Auburn, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-36 win against Giles on the 29th.
