Volleyball Recap: Green Valley Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Basic

On Tuesday, Green Valley faced Basic in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Green Valley Gators lost 3-0 to the Basic Wolves. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-16, 25-16.

Mua Sagaiga paced Green Valley's offense, picking up six kills. Sagaiga got some help from Yasen Kolev and his six assists. Finally, Preston Whiting and Zechariah Nissley kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

Basic can attribute much of their success to Blake Bevell, who had 11 digs. Bevell has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times he's played.

Green Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. The victory was the third in a row for Basic, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Coming up, Green Valley will face off against Shadow Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be Shadow Ridge's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Basic, they will take on Cimarron-Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest will also give Basic their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
