Softball Game Preview: Greeneview Rams vs. Urbana Hillclimbers

The Greeneview Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Urbana Hillclimbers at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Urbana took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Greeneview, who comes in off a win.

Greeneview took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Stebbins 15-5. The Rams not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.

Maddie Leslie spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Greeneview let Gabbie Burkett and Bella Sutton run wild. Burkett went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Sutton scored three runs while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Simpson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Urbana lost 17-4 to Springfield on Tuesday. The Hillclimbers have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jazmyn Scott and Morgan Boyd did some serious damage despite the final result: Scott went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI, while Boyd scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Urbana now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Greeneview, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Greeneview suffered a grim 16-7 defeat to Urbana when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can Greeneview avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
