Basketball Recap: Jaxon Williamson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bartram Trail over Beachside

Bartram Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Beachside Barracudas. The Bears were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Barracudas earlier this season, when they won 60-53.

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxon Williamson, who went 6 for 12 en route to 18 points and seven assists. The dominant performance also gave Williamson a new career-high in blocks (two). Bennett Michelsen was another key player, as he made all 5 shots he took racking up 11 points and five rebounds.

Beachside was led to victory by Sammy Oliver and Maddox Hunstad. Oliver went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points and three steals, while Hunstad went 7 for 15 en route to 19 points and eight boards. The matchup was Hunstad's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Rocco, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Bartram Trail's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Beachside, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Bartram Trail has already played their next contest, a 39-37 win against Orange Park on the 27th. As for Beachside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 43-39 victory against Paxon School For Advanced Studies on the 27th.
