Monrovia is a perfect 3-0 against Marshall since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Barristers at 10:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Monrovia comes in on six and Marshall on three.
While Monrovia's victory against Pasadena wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 3-1.
Monrovia got a great performance from Maddox Morales as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Morales has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Monrovia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Oandasan, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Marshall got the win against Eagle Rock on Friday by a conclusive 7-1.
The team relied heavily on Damian Vasquez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Andrew Torres, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Monrovia pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Marshall, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Marshall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monrovia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Marshall, though, as they've only averaged .225. Will they be able to contain Monrovia's hitters?
Monrovia was able to grind out a solid win over Marshall when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 3-0. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Barristers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
