Softball Recap: Aiken Takes a Loss

Aiken lost against Williston-Elko back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Aiken fell just short of Williston-Elko by a score of 9-8.

Weimer Kate put in work no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Kate was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

In other pitching news, Aiken got a good showing from Avery Broach, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave Broach a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Maddie Hopkins was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Aiken always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Aiken dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Williston-Elko, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 5-0.

Aiken didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 25-24 defeat against Brookland-Cayce on the 27th. Williston-Elko has also already played their next contest (against Ridge Spring-Monetta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
