Basketball Recap: Carver Collegiate Academy Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Carver Collegiate Academy Rams lost to the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars on the road by a 48-34 margin. The matchup marked the Rams' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Fort Bend Kempner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shemar Smith, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Parker, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

Carver Collegiate Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Fort Bend Kempner, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Carver Collegiate Academy will head out to take on Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Holy Cross knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Carver Collegiate Academy likes a good challenge. As for Fort Bend Kempner, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-43 win against Warren Easton on the 28th.
