Softball Recap: Boyd Beats Village Tech for Their Sixth Straight Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Boyd rose to the challenge on Thursday. They never let the Village Tech Viper Squid get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. Considering the Yellowjackets have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Abby Atkinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, Madysin Brock looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.

Back at the plate, Boyd got a massive performance out of Gabby Salas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Salas a new career-high. Stephanie Salas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Boyd always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Boyd, bringing their record up to 24-4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Village Tech, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Coming up, Boyd will take on Mount Vernon on Thursday. Village Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
