Baseball Recap: Rice Memorial Takes a Loss

Essex hit Rice Memorial with a ten-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Green Knights came up short against the Hornets, falling 14-2. The Green Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Rice Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oliver Quong, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Coleton Merchant also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Rice Memorial has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Essex, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Rice Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Essex, they will face off against Bellows Free Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
