Baseball Game Preview: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Deer Valley Wolverines

For the second straight game, Pittsburg will face off against Deer Valley. The Pirates will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Pittsburg's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Deer Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pittsburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Deer Valley get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

J'Marion Bella made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Santino Valle and Ty Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Valle got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thompson went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Thompson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Anthony Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Deer Valley, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Deer Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Pittsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game.
