Basketball Game Preview: Ironwood Eagles vs. Rancho Cucamonga Cougars

The Ironwood Eagles will take on the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars in a tournament on Thursday. Ironwood will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Friday, Ironwood beat Fossil Ridge 60-50. The 60-point effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Kory Head-Holbrook continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Yar Shadowvine, who posted 12 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Rancho Cucamonga made off with an 83-82 victory over Long Beach Poly. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 156th), the result last Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rancho Cucamonga has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.9 points per game. As for Ironwood, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
