Baseball Recap: Cripple Creek-Victor Drops Highest Score of Season Against Elbert

Cripple Creek-Victor had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Elbert Bulldogs by a score of 16-15. On the bright side, the 15- run performance marked the Pioneers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Remi Rook made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Chase Lohmeier, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

As for Elbert, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.

On Elbert's side, Grant Smith and Sam Cornell did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Cornell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Cornell is becoming a predictor of the Bulldogs' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Nathan Lammers also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Cripple Creek-Victor does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elbert, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-4 victory against Evangel Christian Academy on the 3rd.
