Softball Recap: Bentworth Gets the Win

Bentworth had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Shenango Wildcats on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Sydney Gonglik made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Makayla Gonglik and Alexa Babirad did most of the damage at the plate: Makayla went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Babirad went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Babirad has posted since back in April.

Bentworth hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shenango struck out 12 times.

Bentworth's record is now 19-2. As for Shenango, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-6 record.

Coming up, Bentworth will challenge Chartiers-Houston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bearcats 1.3, the Buccaneers 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Shenango does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
