Baseball Recap: Soledad Takes a Loss

Soledad extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-16 in the process. They came up short against the Liberty Lions, falling 11-3. The Aztecs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lions from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.

Soledad saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anikan Tavarez, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Liberty, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Liberty's side, Alejandro Hernandez-Leypon looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez-Leypon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sean Kelly, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Chayce Formosa, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Coming up, Soledad will host Monterey at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Heritage at 4:00 p.m. The Patriots will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
