Basketball Game Preview: El Segundo Eagles vs. Torrance Tartars

The El Segundo Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Torrance Tartars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, El Segundo came up short against South and fell 71-61. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Spartans are ranked 243rd).

Torrance has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-63 heartbreaker at the hands of North. That's two games in a row now that the Tartars have lost by exactly five points.

El Segundo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Torrance, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

El Segundo came up short against Torrance when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 53-43. Can El Segundo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
