Black Friday -- and Saturday, too -- came early for a sizable number of MaxPreps Texas Top 25 football teams in Week 13 of the UIL area playoff round.

Previously unbeaten teams Pearland, Clear Creek (League City) and Crosby experienced sudden endings to magical seasons. Another handful of one-loss teams were also second-round playoff casualties. All of which speaks to the level of competition in Texas when the difference between an early exit or a state title can often be razor-thin.

The ranks of the unbeaten dropped, but a few perfect seasons remain alive, including No. 1 Allen and No. 2 Katy. Allen survived another tight second-round matchup with DeSoto, 41-40, for its 55th-consecutive victory, and Katy finally saw its five-game shutout streak end, but had no problem with Cypress Ranch (Houston), 59-20.
