Basketball Recap: Pueblo Centennial Takes a Loss

Pueblo Centennial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the La Junta Tigers. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Pueblo Centennial lost, don't look at Ella Greenwood. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Pueblo Centennial is 3-1 when Greenwood posts ten or more boards, but 5-14 otherwise.

La Junta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marlie Gonzales out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Gonzales is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Mayo, who posted nine points and five boards.

Pueblo Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for La Junta, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Pueblo Centennial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Junta, they will take on Florence in a tournament on Friday. The timing isn't great for Florence: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while La Junta has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
