Basketball Game Preview: Yuma Outlaws vs. Wray Eagles

Yuma has gone 9-1 against Wray recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Yuma Outlaws will welcome the Wray Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Yuma has six straight wins, Wray has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Yuma is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Frontier Academy on Friday as Yuma made off with an 85-64 victory. With the Outlaws ahead 48-26 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Yuma relied on the efforts of Brody Sheffield, who posted 32 points and eight boards, and Jonathan Thomson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The match was Sheffield's 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Iann Duran, who put up six points.

Yuma smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Wray managed to keep up with Highland until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Wray came up short against Highland, falling 65-44. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Huskies are ranked 15th).

Yuma is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Wray, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Yuma was able to grind out a solid win over Wray when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 59-49. Does Yuma have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wray turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
