Chatfield gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the St. Charles Fighting Saints by a score of 7-2. This was payback for the Gophers, who suffered a 12-10 loss the last time these two teams met.
Rylee Urban spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Chatfield's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Dornack, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Olivia Karver, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
St. Charles' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chatfield is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Byron at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Charles, they will face off against Plainview-Elgin-Millville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
