Softball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Mercy Tigers

The Southington Blue Knights will face off against the Mercy Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Southington's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Maloney as they made off with a 14-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Knights in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won nine in a row.

Angie Insogna and Shelby Jordan were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Insogna pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jordan tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Insogna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Insogna went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Jordan went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Insogna has hit this season.

In other batting news, Aubrey Perugini was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Archer, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

Southington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Mercy entered their tilt with Sheehan on Monday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 12-0 win.

Mercy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Southington, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
