Despite the loss, Niskayuna saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Skye Linyear posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Linyear is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.
Meanwhile, Albany hadn't done well against Shenendehowa recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Albany secured a 53-49 W over Shenendehowa. The victory was familiar territory for the Falcons, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Albany's win came from a few key players Niskayuna will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mia Corazzini, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasani Francis Torras, who went 8-for-17 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds.
Albany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.
Albany pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Niskayuna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Niskayuna has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Albany struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
