Baseball Recap: Irvington Takes a Loss

If Irvington was feeling good fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Mission San Jose on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Irvington fell just short of the Mt. Eden Monarchs by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Monarchs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Giovanni Pena was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Irvington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Benjamin Walkup, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Walkup a new career-high.

Irvington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Mt. Eden, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Irvington and Mt. Eden: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Irvington will look to extend American's three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mt. Eden will try to hand Antioch their third-straight loss when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
