The Grapeland Sandies are taking a road trip to challenge the Normangee Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Grapeland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Grapeland's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Centerville 2-0. The game was the first time the Sandies have beaten the Tigers on their field since April 23, 2019.

Not much got past Aiden Owens, who gave up just five hits to keep Centerville off the board. Owens also tossed no walks, which is notable because Grapeland is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 2-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Grapeland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edy Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Lopez has posted since back in March of 2025.
Lovelady hit Normangee with a five-run second inning last Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since March 18, 2025.
Luis Garcia and Marshall Harris stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garcia went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Harris went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was Garcia's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Billy Makepeace, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Grapeland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Normangee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grapeland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. However, it's not like Normangee struggles in that department as they've averaged .544. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Grapeland's way against Normangee in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Grapeland made off with a 17-5 victory. Will the Sandies repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
