The Canton Little Giants will challenge the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Canton is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Dunlap on Tuesday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 15-2. The Little Giants haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Makaylynne Correa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Rushville-Industry typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Cuba/Spoon River Valley proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Rockets 20-1. Considering the Wildcats have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kacie White made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joley McLaughlin, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Abbie Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cuba/Spoon River Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rushville-Industry only posted an OBP of .125.
Cuba/Spoon River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Canton, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Cuba/Spoon River Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
