Two dominant signal callers in Drew Dean and King White are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Oxford Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Germantown Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Oxford is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Madison Central, who was ranked 18th at the time (Oxford was ranked seventh). The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jaguars last Friday, sneaking past 16-14. The game was the first time the Chargers have beaten the Jaguars on their field since September 2, 2016.

Oxford found their leader in sophomore Demar Jamerson, who rushed for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kevin Smith did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
Oxford's run defense was locked in: Madison Central could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Weldon Wilkinson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Oxford's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Oxford's defense didn't let Tripp Smith, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Wesley Gaia and Zyeer Pegues, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Madison Central's side was Gaia, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Germantown had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-28 victory over the Yellowjackets.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in White and Kingston Johnson. White had a great game and threw for 395 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Meanwhile, Johnson was balling out in the loss, throwing for 302 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 51 yards.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Germantown, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Keyshaun Coleman, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Germantown's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Oxford couldn't quite get it done against Germantown in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 as they fell 43-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of White, who rushed for 98 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 101 yards and one TD. Now that the Chargers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
