Basketball Recap: Wellington Comes Up Short

Wellington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 44-7 loss at the hands of the Palm Beach Lakes Rams. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Rams are ranked 96th).

Palm Beach Lakes found their leader in freshman Ajyah Haywood, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Haywood a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Laniya Hall, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Wellington's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-10. As for Palm Beach Lakes, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Wellington has already played their next match, a 51-16 victory against Lake Worth on the 30th. As for Palm Beach Lakes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-32 win against Palm Beach Central on the 6th.
