Millard West has gone 9-1 against Papillion-LaVista recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Wildcats will take on the Monarchs at 12:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Millard West is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Bellevue West, who was ranked seventh at the time (Millard West was ranked 13th). The Wildcats never let the Thunderbirds get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Colton Williams tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Kidd, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Chance Roberts also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista entered their tilt with Millard North on Friday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Mustangs.
Landyn Albrecht was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Albrecht was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Isaac Pamaran was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Easton Schneider, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Millard West now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Papillion-LaVista, their record now sits at 12-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Millard West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Papillion-LaVista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Millard West took their win against Papillion-LaVista in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
