Preview: Mt. Olive Wildcats vs. Lutheran Crusaders

The Mt. Olive Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Lutheran Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Olive is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Mt. Olive pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 69-57 to East Alton-Wood River. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mt. Olive in their matchups with East Alton-Wood River: they've now lost five in a row.

The losing side was boosted by Briley Viviano, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dexter Frizzo, who scored 14 points.

Meanwhile, Lutheran beat Hartsburg-Emden 62-54 on Tuesday.

Mt. Olive has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season. As for Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 11-15.

Mt. Olive took a serious blow against Lutheran when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 78-38. Can Mt. Olive avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
