Softball Recap: Pearl's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pearl won against Oak Grove last Thursday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Pirates walked away with a 5-2 win over the Richland Rangers. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Lilly Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Pearl's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Shiloh Wells, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. What's more, Wells posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Skylar Brumfield also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Pearl's record now sits at 13-7. As for Richland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Coming up, Pearl will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Northwest Rankin at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. Richland will be paying especially close attention to Pearl's game: after Pearl faces off against Northwest Rankin, they'll take on Richland again at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
