Flag Football Game Preview: Santa Paula Cardinals vs. Fillmore Flashes

The Santa Paula Cardinals will take on the Fillmore Flashes at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fillmore took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Santa Paula, who comes in off a win.

Santa Paula's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Hueneme 27-0. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Angie Aguilera, who threw for 274 yards while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Those 274 passing yards gave her a new career-high.

Another reason for the win was Santa Paula's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Tatyana Magana.

Meanwhile, Fillmore fell victim to Channel Islands and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They took a blow against the Raiders, falling 45-0. The Flashes have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Santa Paula has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.5 points on average over those games. As for Fillmore, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Everything came up roses for Santa Paula against Fillmore in their previous matchup on September 10th, as the squad secured a 50-0 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Flashes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
