Basketball Recap: Concord Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

Concord Academy waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 76-64 win over the Gaston Day Spartans. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Spartans are ranked 55th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Concord Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Benham out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Benham a new career-high in boards. Lincoln Raper was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Concord Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gaston Day only posted ten assists.

Gaston Day's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dylan Bradley, who posted 22 points and six boards, and Deshawn Coulter, who earned 17 points and eight rebounds. Coulter is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Braylen Todd, who scored eight points.

Concord Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Gaston Day, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-7.

Concord Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-50 win against Westminster Catawba Christian on the 23rd. Gaston Day has also already played their next match, a 71-52 loss against Gaston Christian on the 24th.
