Softball Recap: Crystal River Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Crystal River had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Hudson on Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Cobras 8-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Jenna Childers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Athena Childs, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Kirsten Schaak was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Crystal River hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hudson struck out six times.

Crystal River's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Hudson, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-9 record.

Looking ahead, Crystal River will venture away from home to challenge Lecanto at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hudson, they will host Anclote at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cobras are facing the Sharks at the right time seeing as the Sharks are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
