Game recap

Elko (Nev.) trailed Dayton (Nev.) by 16 points at one time, but managed to come all the way back and secure a 21-16 victory on Saturday.

The Dust Devils pulled ahead on a Taryn Aguilera touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 16-0. The Indians scored the winning points with a touchdown pass by Dalton Ridgway that came in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring zero points in the third, Elko still trailed by 16 points going into the fourth quarter. But 21 points in the fourth helped EHS pull out the victory.

The Indians didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Ridgway threw a touchdown.

Aguilera played well for Dayton. The junior tight end ran for one touchdown.

Cody Green was the top performer for Elko. The senior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.

EHS had struggled this season, allowing 31.2 points per game. However, the Indians' defense dug in and limited DHS well above its season average of 3.7 points per game.

Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 28-14 win for Elko.

The win was a nice bounce back for EHS, which lost to South Tahoe last week, 41-36. The defeat comes as a step back for Dayton, which notched a 20-14 victory over Wooster in its previous outing.

Dayton (2-5) goes up against Sparks in a IA Northern game matchup next week, while Elko (2-5) locks horns with Wooster also in a IA Northern game.
