Football Recap: Calvary Christian Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Calvary Christian can now relate to. They took a 37-21 bruising from the Stratford Academy Eagles on Friday. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Calvary Christian lost, don't look at Braxton Wilkinson. Despite the final result, he threw for 358 yards and three TDs. The Knights are 2-1 when Wilkinson posts 250 or more passing yards, but 4-5 otherwise. Jamar Williams helped Wilkinson out on the ground, picking up 107 receiving yards and one score.

Stratford Academy found their leader in sophomore Tucker Johnston, who rushed for 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 83 yards and a pair of TDs. Josh Butts was Johnston's top target, picking up 15 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 53 yards.

Calvary Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Stratford Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Calvary Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stratford Academy, they will host George Walton Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 10.4 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
