Baseball Recap: Culleoka's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Culleoka had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-12 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Perry County Vikings 6-5. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Ethan Lovett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Culleoka's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Lovett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

Lovett wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Walker Chiles, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those three hits gave Chiles a new career-high. Mason Pearce also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Perry County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured eight losses in a row.

On Perry County's side, Ryder Sellers was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Culleoka has already played their next match, an 11-1 defeat against Hampshire on the 21st. As for Perry County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 19-3 victory against Hughes on the 23rd.
