Softball Game Preview: Greenwood Eagles vs. Hillcrest Rams

For the second straight game, Greenwood will face off against Hillcrest. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Greenwood is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Greenwood managed to slip by Hillcrest the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles came up short against the Rams on Monday, falling 16-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

For Hillcrest's part, Olivia Baker made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Baker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hillcrest got a massive performance out of Lillian Lane, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Lane a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Ramsey, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Hillcrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hillcrest has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
