Preview: Oil City Oilers vs. Sharon Tigers
The Oil City Oilers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Sharon Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Oil City rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past North East 51-14 on the road.
Ethen Knox continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 353 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Knox is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonny Hargenrader, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Meanwhile, Sharon never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed by Fairview on the road to the tune of 28-0. Given Sharon's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Fairview is ranked 376th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mister Ham looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 85 yards on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 152 yards and a touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes.
Oil City's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Sharon, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Oil City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 330 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sharon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 209.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Oil City might still be hurting after the 23-0 loss they got from Sharon in their previous matchup back in September of 2021. Can Oil City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
