Basketball Game Preview: Victoria East Titans vs. Gregory-Portland Wildcats

Victoria East is 1-6 against Gregory-Portland since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Victoria East Titans will take on the Gregory-Portland Wildcats in a tournament on Thursday. Victoria East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Victoria East turned things around against Rockport-Fulton on Tuesday. They took down the Pirates 56-40.

Gregory-Portland has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 87-84 to Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Eagles are ranked ninth).

Victoria East now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Gregory-Portland, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-4.

Victoria East took a serious blow against Gregory-Portland in their previous meeting back in November, falling 71-43. Can Victoria East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
