Richmond has gone a perfect 10-0 against Pinecrest recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Richmond Raiders will square off against the Pinecrest Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Richmond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Richmond took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Southern Lee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Richmond had just enough and edged out Southern Lee 7-5. The win was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Madee Pearson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Hayden Robinson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Kinsie Lyerly, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Richmond was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Lee only posted a batting average of .267.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest lost 19-9 to Purnell Swett on Thursday.
Arianna Reddinger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kia Todd, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Richmond's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Pinecrest, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Richmond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Pinecrest struggles in that department as they've averaged .419. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Richmond beat Pinecrest 14-11 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Richmond have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pinecrest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
