Recap: Brush Beetdiggers vs. Resurrection Christian Cougars
If the Brush Beetdiggers were riding high off their 62-24 takedown of the Frontier Academy Wolverines last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Brush was beaten by Resurrection Christian 70-31 on Monday. Brush was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-12.
Several Beetdiggers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jocelynn Middlemist, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Middlemist hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyanne Garrett, who scored five points.
Resurrection Christian was led to victory by Olivia Klein and Mackenzie Flikkema. Klein scored 11 points along with seven steals and five assists, while Flikkema scored 14 points along with five steals and four blocks. Flikkema's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. Callie Gillespie was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Brush has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Resurrection Christian, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brush will stay at home for another game and welcome Timnath at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Timnath has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Resurrection Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Valley at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Saturday.
