Recap: Plainfield Quakers vs. Mooresville Pioneers
The Plainfield Quakers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Mooresville with points to spare, taking the game 61-42. Given Plainfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Mooresville is ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Collin Schmidt was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Ellis, who scored 19 points.
Despite the loss, Mooresville saw an underclassman step up: Tyronne Elmore scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aj Defur, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Plainfield pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Mooresville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainfield will take on Decatur Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mooresville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Parke Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Parke Heritage's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
