The Erskine Academy Eagles will square off against the Leavitt Hornets on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Erskine Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Poland. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Kelsie Dunn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Erskine Academy let Lillian Clark and Kammie Thompson run wild. Clark went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Thompson got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Clark has posted since back in May. Kylie Bellows also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Leavitt ultimately got the result they hoped for last Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Nokomis 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since May 12th.
Leavitt also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Hailey Cyr gave up a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Ashlyn Holbrook was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Leah Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Erskine Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Leavitt, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.
Erskine Academy might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Leavitt in their previous meeting last Monday. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
