Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. United Faith Christian Academy Falcons
The Covenant Day Lions will head out on the road to face off against the United Faith Christian Academy Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Covenant Day narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Carmel Christian 59-57.
Michael Marcus Jr. was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for he. Patrick Penosky was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, United Faith Christian Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Carolina International as United Faith Christian Academy made off with a 86-63 victory. The victory was just what United Faith Christian Academy needed coming off of a 83-40 defeat in their prior game.
Dylan Deluca continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was JD Bowden, who scored 13 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Covenant Day has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for United Faith Christian Academy, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Covenant Day hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.1 points per game. It's a different story for United Faith Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 68.9 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Covenant Day ended up a good deal behind United Faith Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, losing 69-50. Can Covenant Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
