Football Recap: Andover Takes Down Wachusett Regional in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Andover had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers with a sharp 29-9 victory. The result was nothing new for the Golden Warriors, who have now won four matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Leading Andover to victory were Marcus Dejesus and Kyle Olson. Dejesus rushed for 130 yards and one score while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, while Olson rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Henry Belscher: he added nine points with three field goals and another two kicking extra points.

Andover didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Owen Cote and Nick Ilsley.

Andover's record now sits at 6-3. As for Wachusett Regional, they moved to 7-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Andover will face off against Xaverian Brothers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Golden Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wachusett Regional, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Shrewsbury at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th.
