Sunnyside Christian beats St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse for their third straight win

Recap: Sunnyside Christian Knights vs. St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse

The Sunnyside Christian Knights had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse with a 40-36 win. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

Sunnyside Christian was led to victory by Jake Smeenk and Buddy Smeenk. Smeenk threw for 466 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt, while Smeenk gained 319 total yards and four touchdowns. Smeenk's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. Another player making a difference was Clayton Smeenk, who picked up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Sunnyside Christian's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, Waitsburg, and Yakama Nation Tribal. As for St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Sunnyside Christian will head out on the road to face off against Pomeroy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pomeroy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Sunnyside Christian likes a good challenge. As for St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Liberty Christian at 7:00 p.m. Liberty Christian will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
